Mathew Nyaungwa, from Rough and Polished diamond analysts, said it was the 13th largest ever to be discovered, according to the BBC, but may have a blemish. A statement from Sierra Leone's president's office said President Ernest Bai Koroma had "thanked the [local] chief and his people for not smuggling the diamond out of the country" and said the owners should get "what is due to them".
